Fly to South Africa from DEN.. PLEASE HELP!!?

Fly to South Africa from DEN.. PLEASE HELP!!?
I have a some what complicated situation.. My husband is from South Africa and hasn't been able to see his family there for 3 years because of lack of money! His mother's birthday is in Feb and we would love to surprise her. I have never booked a flight myself and I have never been outside of the states. I just looked on delta.com for flights from DEN to JNB on Feb 17th to Feb 21st round trip and the total price was $2,265.90 I was shocked!! Any other time I've ever just randomly looked for flights, the price was the two of us to fly was over $5,000!! So why this sudden change? Did I do something wrong, am I missing something? Is it only that cheap if I buy it before 2011? Are there other airlines that would offer cheaper prices to fly from DEN to JNB? Am I just being fooled by this price? It seems so unreal!! My husband is dying to see his family, his mom misses him so much this would be so fantastic if we could go. Any advice you can offer? I don't care how many stops we make or what time we leave, we just need to get there. I STILL HAVEN'T EVEN MET HIS FAMILY!! This is SO important. We won't be able to buy the tickets ahead of time, we do not have a lot of money this is very very important to us, will the price increase by feb? thanks

Try checking websites like Kayak.com that check several websites at the same time- that will save you some time. Also, Kayak has good prices on flights outside the US. Try to book flights from Mexico City, for example, or Toronto (or another Canadian city). Flights from the US are so expensive because we have to pay so much extra for all the additional abuse we receive in way of unnecessary security (my opinion anyway). It is so relaxing to go to an airport in another country and be treated like a human being. I think a lot of Americans are doing this more and more. Mexico City is really easy to get to, short commuter flights from Texas anyway. Drive to Texas. Fly a commuter airplane to Mexico City, then go to South Africa from there. I think if you go North to Canada, you will find similarly inexpensive fares. Just a thought.....

All I can say is both of you should save a lot of money and have patience. Soon you both might be able to go see the family.
