Why do *certain people think that the tribal people of the world WANT to be "westernized"?
They don't. Why do so many people here think that just because someone is not living in a house that's way too large for them, and eating McDonalds everyday while wasting their life away behind a cubicle because they have to make money for others, is better than those who just prefer a different kind of life? I always hear people say this. Like they look down on tribal groups of the world. Assuming they are somehow stupid, when they aren't at all. These people choose to stay in tribes and be nomadic. Even in places like Africa, in many places they have made it so tribal children have to go to school, and the kids come back to their lives once they're finished. Its preferred over "modern" living. They get tourists and anthropologists who come to see how they live, and bring their cameras and language, and different foods and clothing. They prefer to live how they do. Simple as that. Why do some people look down on it like its stupid?

They dont choose to be that way, they just are. They are too stupid to advance as a society. Other people around the world advance as a society when they can find a way to make food without having to hunt and gather. They dont "choose" to be that primitive, they just are. And yes they would prefer to have our lifestyle if they knew about it. Honestly why do us black people try to make excuses for our primitive people?

I do admire those people that choose to cling on to their traditional ways..they've survived for thousands of years living the way they do so I don't see why they should change. I especially admire the uncontacted tribes of the world, though there are very few of them.

Its called being literate. Many monks in China are also not into western culture. BUT they are wise and literate. Not like some primitive apes foraging off the land. We are humans, we have a brain. We pass knowledge and progress down from generation to generation. If that does not appeal to you, then you do all your ancestors who braved nature just to evolve the brain size you have today a disservice. All religions, emphasize knowledge and literacy. Ignorance and primitivity is shunned. _Why do lions use their claws? Why do Elephants use their trunks? Why do humans use their brains? Natures way. We evolved to fit ecological roles.

Ethnocentrism. Because people view cultures outside of their own as being strange. We often think, why would anyone want to live like THAT when they can live like THIS? I mean, I'm guilty of doing it sometimes... However, I have to remind myself that that's all that they know. That's their life and they may also view MY way of life as being strange as well. There's a tribe in Brazil that finds plucking eyebrow and eyelash hairs from their partner's face arousing. That's weird as hell to me, but to them... It's normal, it's their way.
