How much money does a graphic designer make in America and are there requests for a movie poster designer?
I'm in metric now and I live in South Africa. Next year I'm going to a college and do a course for 2 years for Graphic Print Production and I'm going to write the international exam. After that I want to go to America and find a job for a Movie Poster designer. Are there regularly requests for such a job and how much more or less do they get paid?

I used to hire/fire a lot of IT staff in my last position. there can be a lot of money in there, but you've got to work up to it, you won't get it overnight. A few years ago in the UK, there was a boom in the UK with people left, right and centre doing the MCSE courses to become microsoft certified professionals. We hired a few, gave them a chance and then got shot of them as they don't have the experience to back it up. Every fix they did was straight from a manual and didn't always work. Before anyone starts whinging about giving them a chance, they were in the contract market and as such were there to fill a whle temporarily, which they couldn't do, I'm sure with training they would have been alright. Personally, I always take people on who have worked their way up to top ranks as they have put the time and effort in and deserve their chance a lot more than someone who has heard that you can make money in IT and has jumped ship, got an MSCE and thinks they know everything there is to know about IT. Start at the bottom and work your way up and you can make some serious money. Oracle at the moment is big bucks, networking, security...

I am sorry but from the old school 20+ years ago, I started in IT like the other guy. I am just astounded at the calibre of IT staff. I have met many more who started off at the bottom and grafted up the ladder. It's actaully wake uptime. No matter what you come into the IT business world with amounts to very little. All it's done is cloud make you think you can earn wads from day one. Forget it, programming you can eran a lot if you come up with the ideads for yourself, networkings is a good source of income. Put programming,networking and database development in one your starting to earn the biggies. Companies need all rounders not a highly tuned C# when they need someobne to get their hands dirty. There's nothing wrong with being an excellent C# programmer. However the drawback is that's what you'll be and as a manager and director where the bigger money is you need to know the whole field not just a small part of it.

I have a certificate in Upholstery and have been working at leading interior decorators and soft furnishing factories in Oudtshoorn and Knysna for the past 14 years. I started my own business on a part time basis 4 mnths ago. I design and manufacture ladies handbags, travel bags and purses and makes use of ostrich leather, Springbok and Impala skins, suede, and hide. I mostly use african designs on my creations. My business' name is U & B Dreamworks. It refers to my versatile services as an Upholsterer, motortrimmer, and Bag designer. My upholstery includes new, modern and antique furniture. I cover chairs, carseats, couches and ottomans etc. It has been my utmost desire to start my own business for years now, but unfortunately I lack the necessary machinery and of course finances to do this on my own. One bag machine costs +- R30 000. I also cannot keep up with my bag orders (they are in huge demand in Hong Kong and African countries) as the material are expensive. Please help!

Im 23 going for 24 I cant find a decient job because of my skin tone in my own country. Worse yet the economy is plumiting I dont know what to do should I stick it out till 2010 or run while I have the chance? My fiance wants to move North to the Portuguess areas in africa he says we can make good money as these countries are hiring whites and blacks alike which gives us a starting chance. What do you think, run or not?

In United States more and more women are becoming the primary bread winner of the household, meaning they make more money than the male. Please do NOT include rubbish like "baby-sitting" or any other ridiculous, typical, retarded American ideas. In South Africa its not common for a 14 year old to baby sit, house sit, pet sit, sell lemonade or pack bags at a grocery store. Please, provide me with some fool-proof ideas. Im thinking more along the lines of doing something online like foreign trade or something of that nature. Im very good at all things computer related. I keep getting those stupid letters from 'attorneys' in South Africa, telling me about all the money I can make if I put up some money in an account here, blah, blah, blah. Or, that a long lost relative of mine has died there, and has 5 million dollars to leave to me. Obviously, I always dump them, but was wondering is there a place we can send them to? Like, a 'spoof' address for the government? Is anyone actually, trying to stop this kind of trash?

i'm out of work for a few weeks, and really strapped for cash. i'd like to make money on my writing. i recently visited south africa, and i would like to write about my experiences there. this could be an opportunity to hone my skills and make some cash while i'm at it... so how would i go about making it happen? i should mention i'm a computer/internet retard. my skills are pretty much rudimentary. would i need to expand those skills, and if so... how? also, how long would it take for the money to start coming in?

I mean, look at Africa. Such a beautiful country, rich in natural resources yet her people is suffering. I mean, they host the FIFA right? well if that same money is used to help the people, im sure that people living in poverty wii be reduced by a large percentage. What kind of movie would you make in South Africa?
Seems like only political dramas and comedies are coming out of South Africa. Suppose you had the money and other resources to make a movie in South Africa, what would it be about?

The myths would all have a supernatural edge to them and a group of oddball characters would work together to defeat evil supernatural forces.

I think a serious (and original) Horror film would be a welcome change. Something that would leave a lasting effect like a "The Shining," "Nightmare on Elm Street" or "Amytyville Horror". It seems that all the movies being created are poor imitations of previously successful overseas movies, simply given an African flavour and from there anything original is slapstick commedy.

recently i was approached by a local filmmaker who wants to buy the rights to one of the books i have written, in order to make a movie out of it. the book revolves around a group of people in johannesburg, over a period of a week, and how their lives cross each others'. it's about drugs, sex, HIV, and corruption. but the underlying theme is one of redemption and justice. strangely enough, it sold just over 350 000 copies overseas, but 6 publishers locally told me that it would not sell, because it was too graphic, too violent, and unrealistic. all of the characters and situations in the book are based on real people, and most of the situations are real events that actually happened. in fact, most of the drug related scenes are events that happened to me while i was still using drugs. you asked what kind of film i would make? i'd make a film based on reality, but it seems that reality is just too unbelievable for south africans.

Im glad your into paintball, i am too. But i dont think there are any paintball tournys in South Africa of what i've read. I would go on some paintball sites and see tourny info and where they are, etc. I would try going on the site at the bottom.

How could you make some money during the 2010 soccer world cup in South Africa, if you live here?
I am 16, just thinking of something interesting to during 2010, possibly make something or sell a product of some sort to make some money, there will be plenty of tourists and I live in Johannesburg in South Africa. Any interesting ideas?:)

Hi Carmen You could probably look into something like cheap African curios like keyrings. Visitors to SA love those kinds of things.

Well I'm guessing that for a majority or the fans travelling to you it will be there first time there, so I think you could take advantage of the fact they will probably want to buy some souvenir's so show they were there. Scarves are always a favourite, so are badges and possibly t-shirts. I'm sure if you think about it properly you can come up with something really inventive. Good luck. Hope Ireland get there:)

make sure they dont get carjacked or robbed. i heard thats a big problem there (from a south african girl)
