what can you do with $USD20 in South Africa?
Trying to make a donation to a reliable social worker in South Africa..but I not sure if to send toys or money. Just need a CPI

That is not very much money. Your bank transfer charges will cost more than that.

If he is reliable, as you said, then I would recommend that you send the money rather than buying a toy, this will be cheaper and will afford the social worker the opportunity to use the money towards their greatest need. Approx. R200-00 can make a difference to someones life, good for you, the world needs more of your type. Edit: as I said if you are certain the recipient can be trusted ,sending money is the better option, if not send the toys.

I have heard on good authority to never send money. All that happens is the money gets spent, and not on the deserving child. More often than not the government takes a huge chunk and the rest goes to other people. Food is like money. Toys however are not, and only children can enjoy them, so they get passed on. And growing up alone, a toy is very comforting, it can keep you warm, and make you comfortable.

$20 equates more or less R200 - Some people do not even earn that in a month. If you can do a money transfer into an account, it will be fine, but do not send money over the post!
